Where are we

This is a residence located in Serra La Nave, on the south slopes of Etna 1735 meters above sea level, between Ragalna and Nicolosi in the province of  Catania. The location of the residence is unique, only 45Km from Toarmina,35 from Catania, 75Km from Siracusa, for this reason many of our guests choose to come here and make this  their base, so as to visit the eastern part of Sicily.

Only 2.5 Km from Etna’s cable car  (rifugio Sapienza) that will take you to the crater, where it is possible to admire the beautiful Sicilian dawn (2920 meters).Immersed in greenery and in the vicinity of the Astrophysics Observatory of the university of Catania, where you can have a guided tour and be witness to a romantic spellbound evening under the stars. At only 50 meters there are routes taking you through the Etna’s Natural Park of thick woods and old lavascapes. This is with no doubt the kingdom for lovers of trekking and mountain bikes, who can live a new experience amongst the wonderful  scenery of lava and woodlands. These same slopes , in winter, transform in an excellent cross country ski course giving joy to many skiers. These are only a few of the aspects of our nation Sicily, little known by many tourists ,that you can discover and surely enjoy.

How to reach us

From the airport Fontanarossa: follow the signs for Tangenziale in the direction Messina, then take the Gravina di Catania exit and then follow on to Nicolosi – Etna Sud (south). After Nicolosi, take the provincial road 92 and follow signs Etna –Sud. After 14Km, and 500 meters you come to a junction. Take the left turning following the signs Residence Serra la Nave, after 800 meters you’ll find a road on the right  and at 150 meters you’ll see our residence on the left. 

From the centre of Catania: follow the signs for Nicolosi – Etna Sud

Services

Booking

Booking in a residence isn’t like booking in a hotel. Our service will be kind and friendly from the moment you arrive. You must arrive before 22.00 hrs or otherwise inform the Home Tutor who will give you all the information you need regarding the apartment, so as to make your stay as pleasant as possible. He will be there only for your arrival and departure, all requests should be made at the time of the booking.

Linen service

All the bed and bath linen will be given to you on arrival and will be changed once a week. Or more often on request at an extra charge .

Log Service

When you arrive you will be given a basket of wood. More can be had at an extra charge.

Restaurant Services

On request you can book lunch or dinner at The Rifugio Arial for 18 Euro per person.

Booking activities

On request booking  and payments for activities such as trekking, mountain biking, skiing etc.

Our Apartments

The Residence Serra La Nave has got 12 apartments. All recently renovated with air condition and heating offering all you need for your stay, from the kitchen with plates, pans and cutlery, fridge, oven TV satellite

These apartments sleep from 2 to 9 people.

Where we are

The Rifugio Ariel is a warm and friendly place situated amongst a pine wood on Mount Etna. The rifugio is built in the Park of Etna at the height of 1700 meters, one of the most beautiful parts of all Etna. Other than this it is situated only 4 Km from the ski slopes, while the slope of Demanio starts at 200 meters from our door . Thanks to its position, the Rifugio Arial is the ideal place to relax, ride a mountain bike,  go trekking or cross country skiing.

How to reach us

From Fontanarossa airport follow the signs for the Tangenziale towards Messina, then take the Gravina di   Catania exit on to Nicolosi-Etna Sud (south).After 14Kms and 500 meters  you will arrive at a junction, where you take the left turning and follow the signs for Rifugio Arial, after 800 meters take the left turning and then after 500 meters you will see us on the left. 

From Catania: follow the signs to Nicolosi-Etna Sud.

Hire service

The Rifugio Arial  offers you the opportunity to hire the material for you excursions on the spot. We have 10 mountain bikes for hire and the possibility of coach tours. In the winter months it is possible to hire skis and snow rackets.

Restaurants

The Rifugio Arial has a typical mountain restaurant, pulse soups, vegetable soups, stews, polenta are our speciality. It is possible to book for lunch and dinner at the modest price of 20 Euro per person. The fixed menu consists of:

• Rustic Sicilian antipasta
• First course or soup
• Second course of meat
• Side dishes or salad
• Fruit and beverage

Organized excursions

The Rifugio Arial proposes to prepare you for some guided tours on Etna which take place in natural, interesting places such as:

• visit  the crater’s summit (to be booked)
• visit  the 2001 crater
• visit Grotto Cassone and the nevaio casa del Vescovo
• visit the nature paths and the botanic garden of Santa Barbara
• visit the Astrophysic’s Observatory (to be booked)
• visit the  acqua rocca of Zappino a unique spa of Etna
• visit Grotto del Gelo

New Year’s Eve

29 December: evening meal and overnight stay.
30 December: breakfast, evening meal and overnight stay.
31 December: breakfast, New year’s Eve dinner.
01 January: breakfast and lunch.          € 270.-
For those who want to prolong their stay to dinner and overnight on the 01 January                                € 300.-

For the  of New Year’s Eve night, there will be a torch light procession fireworks and vin brulee in front of the rifugio.

These prices are per person.
On booking, a deposit of 50% is required, to arrive within the following  month.
